Omapodi is a Tamil word used for sev, which is an Indian snack. This crunchy and crispy snack is made using checkpea flour or rice flour mixed with gram flour. A presser is needed for shaping the dough. A small pressers can be found in most of the South Indian kitchens and a omapodi making machine is needed for food industries, where omapodi is made in bulk amount. The key ingredients used for making it are flour, oman/ajwain/carom seeds, hing, oil/butter, vegetable oil, salt and red chilli powder. The noodle strings are created out of dough fed into the omapodi making machine. These strings are deep fried and when cool, these are broken into pieces. Omapodi is packed air tight. The dies used for giving the shape to dough are available in different shapes & sizes. The machine operates at a good speed and requires very less maintenance.
